Palestinian Artist Malak Mattar’s Artwork Graces ‘Lullaby’ Charity Single

In a poignant fusion of art and music, Gazan painter Malak Mattar’s evocative artwork has been selected as the cover for ‘Lullaby,’ the upcoming charity single by Together For Palestine.

Set for release on December 12, the single aims to raise funds for Palestinian children through Choose Love’s ‘Together For Palestine Fund.’ Mattar’s artwork, inspired by her piece ‘Shelter,’ captures the resilience and hope of the Palestinian people amidst ongoing challenges.

The painting features a mother tenderly cradling her child, symbolizing protection and love in the face of adversity. This visual narrative aligns seamlessly with the song’s theme, a reimagining of the traditional Palestinian lullaby ‘Yamma Mweel El Hawa,’ which translates to ‘Mama, Sing To The Wind.’

The collaboration between Mattar and the musical ensemble underscores the project’s commitment to amplifying Palestinian voices and artistry. The single boasts contributions from renowned artists such as Brian Eno, Celeste, Bastille‘s Dan Smith, Neneh Cherry, and Mabel.

The arrangement and recomposition were led by Kieran Brunt and Palestinian musician Nai Barghouti, with English lyrics penned by Peter Gabriel. All proceeds from ‘Lullaby’ will benefit three Palestinian-led organizations: Taawon, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, and Palestine Medical Relief Service.

The initiative follows the successful ‘Together For Palestine’ concert held in September, which raised over £2 million to support Palestinian communities. By integrating Mattar’s compelling artwork with this musical endeavor, ‘Lullaby’ not only seeks to achieve the coveted UK Christmas Number One spot but also aims to shine a spotlight on Palestinian culture and the enduring spirit of its people.
