British indie rock veterans The Futureheads are embracing the holiday spirit with the release of their first-ever Christmas album, aptly titled *Christmas*, set to debut on November 21, 2025.
The album showcases a curated mix of reimagined Christmas classics and original compositions, all infused with the band’s signature indie style. Recorded over nine months in their hometown of Sunderland, the 11-track collection includes unique renditions of beloved carols such as “Carol of the Bells” and “In The Bleak Midwinter.”
The band also offers their take on Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime,” The Pretenders’ “2000 Miles,” and Jona Lewie’s “Stop the Cavalry.” Adding to the festive cheer, The Futureheads have penned two original tracks: “The Coldest Winter in 100 Years” and “Christmas Was Better in the 80s,” the latter accompanied by a music video that captures the band’s playful energy and nostalgic celebration of 1980s festive culture.
The inspiration for the album emerged following the band’s return to live performances, particularly their Christmas concerts in North East England. All tracks were self-produced, arranged, and recorded by the band, resulting in an authentic and intimate sound that reflects their long-standing collaboration and chemistry.
To support the release, The Futureheads have announced a December UK tour, bringing their holiday songs to audiences across the country. Confirmed dates include shows at Glasgow’s Oran Mor on December 8, Sunderland’s The Fire Station on December 19 and 20, and London’s EartH Theatre on December 22.
Through this festive project, The Futureheads are not only celebrating the holiday season but also commemorating their longevity and ongoing creativity as a band. They demonstrate their commitment to creating unique music that honors both tradition and innovation, while maintaining the distinctive sound that has defined their career.
